Course Description
The Certificate II in Building and Construction (Carpentry) pre-apprenticeship provides entry level training for people seeking a career in the building and construction industry. The aim of the course is to provide participants with the basic skills and knowledge and allow them to access apprenticeships in the building and construction trades.
The course offers partial credit towards a range of competency standards; if you subsequently go on to secure an apprenticeship in Building and Construction.
This qualification offers participant’s prevocational training in the building and construction industry.The qualification aims to provide participants with the basic skills and knowledge to allow them to seek an apprenticeship in one of the following sectors in the building and construction industry:
- Bricklaying
- Carpentry
- Painting & Decorating
- Wall & Ceiling Lining
- Wall & Floor Tiling
- Solid Plastering
- Stonemasonry
Opportunities
Apprentice carpenters can work in the popular carpentry trade and when fully qualified has many opportunities when it comes to the building and construction industry. Salary and employment prospects are excellent and there is always the possibility to run and operate your own business one day.
Entry requirements
It is recommended that the participants have basic communication, literacy, numeracy skills that are sufficiently well developed for them to participate in the training. In order to apply, students need to be currently completing their VCE or VCAL.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer
If you have skills or knowledge gained through previous study or relevant experience, you may be eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning and/or Credit Transfer which reduces the amount of training needed to complete the course.These will be discussed with you during your pre-training review.

During your apprenticeship you will be assigned a dedicated Field Officer to support you. Field Officers are known for their trade experience and extensive exposure across a wide range of industries.
